Title:  Parts of Speech

Grade Level:&nb= sp; 6th – 8= th

Objective:  The student will use Sta= ndard English grammar to compose or edit.

Description:&nb= sp; In small groups, the stu= dents will be assigned one part of speech to teach to the rest of the class.  The group will create a PowerPoint= to assist in teaching the concept.  A quiz created by the group will be given to the rest of the class at the end= of the lesson.

Technology Activities: 

(1)&= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp; PowerPoint = will be used to make the slides about a part of speech.

(2)&= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp; The PowerPo= int will be saved on a jump drive by the students.

(3)&= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp; The voice recorder component of PowerPoint will be used to save the presentation for future reference.

Title:  Introducing a New Friend

Grade Level:&nb= sp; 6th – 8= th

Objective:  The student will incorpo= rate descriptive details into texts including but not limited to narrative, expository, or persuasive text.

Description:&nb= sp; In groups of two, the st= udents will interview each other during the first week of school.  Each student will create a biograp= hical billboard to introduce their new friend to the rest of the class.

Technology Activities: 

(4)&= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp; Bullets in Microsoft Word will be used to build billboards to advertise a partner.

(5)&= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp; Each studen= t will use a digital camera to take a photo of his or her partner to add to the billboard.

(6)&= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp; The student= s will use the Smartboard to present the billboards.

Title:  Utopia Postcard

Grade Level:&nb= sp; 6th – 8= th

Objective:  The student will identify story elements.

Description:&nb= sp; After reading The Giv= er by Lois Lowery, the students will create a postcard to describe to their families the setting of the story.  The postcards will be made from the point of view of a person visiti= ng the utopia for the first time.

Technology Activities: 

(7)&= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp; Using Micro= soft Word, a table will be inserted that has one row and one column.  Table properties will be set at 4&= #8221; specific height for the rows and 6” for the columns.

(8)&= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp; Students wi= ll chose a picture from “insert a picture” to include on the postc= ard.

(9)&= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp; The student= s will print their postcards to display in the class.

Title:  Propaganda

Grade Level:&nb= sp; 6th – 8= th

Objective:  The students will recogn= ize persuasive techniques.

Description:&nb= sp; The class will learn abo= ut various propaganda techniques used in television commercials and printed advertisements.  After learnin= g to identify various propaganda techniques, the students will make their own commercial demonstrating an assigned kind of propaganda.  They will also create a collage to display examples of the same kind of propaganda.

Technology Activities: 

(10)=             &nb= sp;        The student= s will use a video camera to record a commercial demonstrating an assigned propaga= nda technique.

(11)=             &nb= sp;        The student= s will use the classroom VCR to show their commercial.

(12)=             &nb= sp;        The student= s will use a scanner to scan photos that they find in magazines that show their propaganda technique.  The sca= nned pictures will be used by the students to make a collage about their propaga= nda technique.

Title:  Interactive Letter

Grade Level:&nb= sp; 6th – 8= th

Objective:  The students compose bus= iness letters.

Description:&nb= sp; Using email, each studen= t will prepare a report/ project with the assistance of a student from another school.  While studying the pr= oper way to write a business letter, each student will correspond with another student to research a place of business that is located in another state or country. 

Technology Activities: 

(13)=             &nb= sp;        The student= s use the Internet to find a pen pal to correspond with. (epals.com) <= /span>

(14)=             &nb= sp;        Each studen= t will correspond through email with their new friend.  Each student will gather informati= on about a place of business that is located in the pen pal’s hometown.<= span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>  The pen pal will help the student = with information.  The student will= also provide the same type of information for the pen pal about a place of busin= ess in our hometown.

(15)=             &nb= sp;        After sever= al weeks of correspondence through email, each student will use the polycom system (distance learning television) to corr= espond with their pen pal in class.  = The two students will present information about their researched places of busi= ness to both classrooms.  In additi= on to sharing information about the places of business, each student will read al= oud a business letter he or she has written to the researched business.
